MDCC 80km Reliability Trial. Sunday 14th February

Thirty Brave Riders Start Our Reliability Trial.
On a cold morning with snow, sleet and rain in the air MDCC organisers were delighted to get a really good turnout of riders from not only our own Club but also a large contingent from Maidenhead's Thames Velo.

The fast group prepare to get away

Setting off in 3 groups, steady, medium and fast each with a different target time they had to contend with cold sleet and snow. The steady group were hit with 4 punctures by Shurlock Row and decided it just wasn't their day and turned for home. The other 2 groups stayed well together and profited from this discipline to reach The Lookout reasonably intact although MDCC's Jorg James suffered punctures and the cold got to some riders meaning we lost a few from then on. The scene at the Lookout as riders pulled away was reminiscent of the Arenberg Forest in Paris -Roubaix

Well done to all riders who took part and especially those who managed to stick with the difficult conditions to finish in their target time. We were particularly pleased to see 3 ladies finish including new member Sarah Davies, Linda Regel and Debbie Parkinson of Thames Velo who finished in the fast group.

We can count our 80+km reliability ride a real success. This is the first time it has been run for a number of years but changing the format to a Sportive system using a new route with a control point and different time bands to aim for seemed popular. Our next Reliability trial of 100km is on Sunday 28th February. We'll let you have more details next week.

It was so cold, wet and snowy - thanks to the guys in the medium group who helped me along at the end when I had totally run out of energy! But I made it and next time I'll be fitter (and hopefully it'll be a bit drier and warmer!!)
