Simon convincingly takes the 2009 25tt championship

With all the rain over recent days the Maidenhead riders taking part in the club 25mile TT championship held on H25/2 were greeted by a bright and sunny morning with a light westerly breeze. 120 rider and 10 reserves were on the start list for what can be a very fast course with the first 1.7miles going down hill along the A404 from High Wycombe. This included 7 Maidenhead riders but only 4 reported to the start line. First off was Simon Green as number 51, shortly followed by Andrew Payne no 57. Dr Paul Richardson (PhD in ground penetrating radar) was off no 74 with Nigel Shurben the last Maidenhead rider being 99. Andrew and Simons paths crossed on the A4 about 1/2mile before the Twyford RB. With the turn at the Sonning RB Andrew felt he was 1-2mins down on Simon at this point. Andrew and Dr Paul crossed around Hare Hatch, but Andrew doesn’t recall seeing Nigel during the ride.

The westerly breeze definitely made it hard work riding to the turn, but didn’t appear to give much benefit on the way back to Maidenhead. It also felt much like a head wind back along the A404 to finish at the Marlow slip road.

On regrouping at Liston Hall in Marlow it was clear Simon had become the new 25tt Champion with a time of 57.45 easily beating Andrew on 1:00.55. Third was Dr Paul in 1:04:09 with Nigel just behind on 1:04.57. The overall view was that the conditions made it tuff going and not ideal for flying down the A404 at speed. All 4 riders would liked to have been quicker aThe overall event winner was Simon Trout of Velocity Bikes in 52min 10sec.
