MDCC Veteran's Best All Rounder Competition

Simon Greenland Makes It A Record Breaking Season!
It will come as no surprise to Club members to learn that Simon Greenland has won the MDCC's Vets BAR again this year with an average speed of 24.52 mph.
The only other rider to enter the competition was first year vet Joe Francis who had a quiet year completing the BAR with an average of 22.53 mph.

Although Simon usually aims to ride in a 12 hour to compete at the 3 full distances, 50miles, 100 miles and 12 hours, problems with the post meant his entry didn't arrive in time for the 12 hour and so the competition was decided over the alternative distances of 25miles, 50 miles and 100miles.

A delighted Simon broke personal bests at '50' and '100' miles to produce 1:56:47 and 4:15:01 plus 56:26 at '25' miles to win the Championships. He also produced pb's this season at '10' and '30' miles with 21:44 and 1:8:32.

As Simon said to me, ' A very good season'. Well done Simon.

MDCC Sportive Trophy

Sportive Trophy Qualification Period Extended
Last weeks request for MDCC members to send in their distances covered in completed sportives this year has brought in a rash of other events covered by riders. As well as this it's been pointed out there are still several Sportives open to riders including 'The Exmoor Beast' that new member Paul Todd, now recovered from a nasty hand injury, intends to ride.

The committee has therefore decided to let this competition run until the end of December before calculating who the winner is. Don't forget to send in your mileages to Peter or Andrew Payne for inclusion in the competition.
The present list [not up to date yet] can be found from the link at the bottom of the calendar page.

Sunday, 11th October, Hillingdon '25' H25/2, MDCC Hill Climb Champs

Neil Campbell Wins the MDCC Novice Championships
The Hillingdon '25' yesterday on the H25/2 provided fast conditions for the last event of the year on this course. The event was used by Neil Campbell and Mike Woods as the event to decide who would win the Novice Championship this year.
Both produced excellent times for a first ride at 25 miles with Neil coming out on top with 1:3:34 and Mike finishing in 1:07:39. Coupled with Neil's fastest '10' time this gave him an average speed of 23.64 mph to win the Championship.

Linda Regel who was leading up until this event expressed her relief that someone else rather than her had taken this event Championships as she was running out of room on her mantlepiece to put her cups this season.

Also of note was MDCC's Ed James who improved over 2 minutes from last week to bring his time down to 1:05:11. Well done Ed.

Simon Greenland was happy to finish his season over 30 secs faster than last week producing 56:26 to finish in 14th place overall. An excellent ride.

MDCC Club Hill Climb Championship
Ian Blatchford was a surprise winner of this years Club Championship over our 3 Hills Course. Joe Harris [Reading CC] won the open event. Full details of times on our results page.

Rowers Revenge Triathlon, Marlow Sunday 4th October

Chris Bounces Back!
MDCC's Chris Heape bounced back on Sunday in the Rowers Revenge Triathlon after a summer plagued with fitness problems. In this popular event based in Marlow the swim is replaced by a session on a rowing machine. Chris finished in 1:23:51 to grab a terrific 3rd place overall and 2nd in his age group.
Gurpal already having competed in the VTTA '25' in the morning went on to complete the course in 2:08:52. He's obviously going for the 'Club Hardman of the Year' Award. Well done Gurpal.
The Dewey's descended mob-handed on the event with Vince, Mark and Alison competing in the mixed team category to finish 2nd. We must sign up Alison to the MDCC to join Dad and brother. A great family effort!

VTTA '25' Thicket Course H25/2, 4th October

Simon Greenland Fastest MDCC Finisher Again!
On a good morning on the Ski Slope course with a slightly rising westerly wind four MDCC riders took one of the last chances of the season to produce a fast time. Fastest was Simon who produced another excellent ride of 57:01. Going off early at number 15 he probably had the best of the weather conditions and going through the Thicket roundabout heading for the finish he looked to be still in good form and moving well.
Nigel Shurben was a little disappointed at his 1:6:14 as he had been hoping to get near his pb. Ed James came in with a creditable 1:7:30 which enabled MDCC to clinch third team place on standard only missing second by 7 seconds.
Gurpal Panesar produced his usual consistent ride to finish in a satisfactory time of 1:11:16.
MDCC members Brian, Malcolm and Peter helped out by marshalling at the Thicket roundabout aided by Robin Ellis.

Club Hill Climb
Don't forget our Club Hill Climb Championships next Sunday, 11th October. 10:30 am start.
Perhaps Simon with his good form will be able to spring a surprise on our usual hillclimbers.
