MDCC Club '10' Thursday 8th April.

A very relaxed, as always, Sharkie Jaggard [TVT] at the start. It paid off, Sharkie finished third in 23:39.
Good Weather and a Dead Heat
The warm dry evening brought 36 riders to our second Club '10' of the season at Shurlock Row. Everyone seemed to show an improvement with MDCC's Pete Weir tieing for first place with new rider Simon Bowler [Eton Tri Club] in 23:21. They beat Sharkie Jaggard by 18 secs and Julian Fairley [MDCC ] by just 20 secs. Julian really is going well at the start of this season. MDCC's Chris Taylor came in in 23:47 and regular competitor Neil Cooper [AW Cycles] was next in with 23:51.

The only riders to break 23 minutes were ex-MDCC pair brothers John and Pete Wager [ Felt-Colbornes] riding as a 2-up to finish in 22-46.

In the womens event we were pleased to see new and regular riders taking part. First home was Jennifer Hewitt [Sigma-Specialised] on a sparkling new red Specialised TT bike in 26:36 beating MDCC's Kate Hunt [28:46] after her win last Saturday in our Hilly TT.

Fastest junior was 16 year old Ellie Quarrington [CTI] who produced a very creditable 29:52.

Thanks to all those who helped this evening especially Linda and Paul Regel who were finish timekeepers. Full results on our events-results page now.

MDCC Hilly 30 mile TT. Saturday, 3rd April.

Winner Tejvan Pettiger finishes on a flat tyre

Andrew Payne comes home
MDCC Ladies Sweep The Board
We were delighted to have a strong showing from our two ladies, Gervase Foley and Kate Hunt, who rode strongly on a tough course in the Chilterns to take first and second places in the womens' section. Especially remarkable when it was their first event of the season. Gervase had a particularly hard ride as she was last rider off and ran into wind and rain shortly before finishing.

We were less successful in the other categories where Pete Lawrence and Chris Starling [VC10/Team MDT Giant] took the 2-up prize and Tejvan Pettinger [ Sri Chinmoy CT] took the fastest rider award while finishing on a soft back tyre.

There were plenty of bad luck stories this afternoon with MDCC's Ed James finishing running after a mechanical. Lucky he's a triathlete! There were a few punctures with the rain washing flints onto the country roads. Richard Legge [London Dynamo ] was brought back in the back of a rubbish collectors van after a mechanical. Next year we will offer a prize for the most original way to finish!
On a day that remained dry until just before the last rider reached home we had an excellent 99% turnout of riders for our first open event of the season.

A Small But Perfectly Formed Event
We must say an enormous thank you to all the Club members who turned out to run the event. We had nearly 20 out on the course and in the HQ. It made it one of the best Club supported events I can remember for many years

First Club '10' of the New Season

Signing on at the start

Mark Brewer pushed off by Uncle Malcolm prepares for the start
Chilly and Damp But at Least It Didn't Rain
We were pleased to see 25 riders start our first Club '10' of the year on the Shurlock Row Course. With the rain pelting down only an hour or so earlier organiser Peter Bell thought we'd be lucky to get a dozen riding. It was good to see such enthusiasm after a long cold winter and spring.

Pete Weir maintained his wining start to the season finishing first in 23:38. This despite Pete saying he hadn't been feeling great all week. Jules Fairley looking very lean put in a fast 24:21 beating Sharkie Jaggard by 41 secs. Andrew Payne saw all the traininhg he has been putting in bear fruit this evening by finishing in the same time as Sharkie on a fairly tough evening.

Rob Brockwell put in an impressive 26:11 on a standard road bike while Nigel Shurben was pleased to go under 29 minutes for the first time this year. We were pleased to have 3 first time riders last night with Simeon Pollard producing an excellent 27:20.

Thanks to our members who turned out to run the event on a cold evening including Malcolm and Brian, The Richardsons and Linda Regel who has volunteered to train as a Club timekeeper.
